‘Our Power, Our Planet’
Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22nd to demonstrate support to our environment. This year is the 55th anniversary of Earth Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about environmental issues and promoting environmental protection. This year, everyone around the globe is invited to unite behind renewable energy, and to triple the global generation of clean electricity by 2030.
What actions are Triangle taking to support Renewable Energy?
We take our responsibility to the environment seriously and continuously review our goals in order to maximise our impact. All suppliers and subcontractors are held to the same high standards with regard to environmental sustainability, and we carefully vet policies and procedures to ensure where possibly they are contributing postitively to net zero carbon targets.
Our energy usage/carbon output, despite the business growing is showing an overall downward trend of 7.69%. This has been achieved in reducing our carbon output from our benchmark of 272.2K to 251.3K for the last reporting year. A difference of 20,931K which equates to 6 less cars (average) on the road. This has primarily been achieved by changing our energy contracts to utilising green energy, updating our fleet to hybrid/electric vehicles, less mileage, amongst others, to changing the temperature in the offices.
Our business travel has also reduced by 6.53% and as a company we are using over 45% of green electricity meaning we are 21% down from the benchmark.
We have committed to achieving Net Zero by 2050 with a target to reduce carbon emissions by 5% for the next reporting.
Health Benefits:
Renewable energy can spark a humanitarian revolution, for the first time in history, we have a pathway to providing virtually unlimited, low-cost energy to everyone. The health benefits of renewable energy include:
- An improvement in air pollution. The burning of fossil fuels is linked to heart attacks, respiratory disorders, strokes and asthma.
- Women’s Health – is especially impacted by air pollution and water contamination – breast cancer, ovarian diseases and maternal health risks have all been associated with it.
- Improved mental health by reducing stress and anxiety associated with pollution, climate change, noise pollutions and environmental disasters.
Economic Benefits:
This profound and fast-moving transition to renewable energy is not just an environmental necessity – it is an economic revolution.
Switching to renewable energy sources is crucial for reducing greenhouse gas because renewables generate electricity without producing carbon dioxide, the primary greenhouse . In contrast, fossil fuels are major emitters of greenhouse gasses and thus are primary contributors to global warming.
Conclusion:
This Earth Day 2025, let’s all commit to harnessing renewable energy to build a healthy, sustainable, equitable and prosperous future for us all. Supporting and adopting the rapid transitions to renewable energy sources now, be it solar, wind, hydro-electric, tidal or geothermal.
