Established in 2001 by the Mental Health Foundation, Mental Health Awareness Week brings the UK together to highlight the importance of mental health in our daily lives and how to prevent mental health issues. This initiative has evolved into one of the most prominent public campaigns in the UK.
The theme for 2024 is ‘Moving More for Our Mental Health’ To endorse this, Triangle Fire Systems urged all employees to step outside and engage in activities like a leisurely walk, run, bike ride, dance or any movement to stimulate the body and mind.
To ensure our employees continue to stay active and healthy, today, we have introduced The Body Coach App with a range of sessions from yoga to strength training and more intense HITT workouts as well as healthy recipes. We even got Joe Wicks himself to film a welcome message to our employees, as our Procurement Director and Marketing Manager joined him for a 5k run during Mental Health Awareness Week.
At Triangle, we prioritise mental health and understand the detrimental effects of poor mental health. The Chartered institute of Building report revealed that in 2019, 26% of construction industry professions considered suicide and 56% of them were employed by organisations lacking mental health policies. These statistics highlight the importance of implementing mental health policies in the workplace, underscoring why Triangle prioritise this issue.
Currently we have one fully trained Mental Health First Aider, and another 10 employees enrolled in the training course, to enhance their knowledge about mental health and improve the well-being of their colleagues.
Comments from some of our trainee Mental Health First Aider’s:
‘I myself know only too well how damaging this can be and would like to gain a deeper understanding of the warning signs associated with mental health.’
‘ I have known about mental health for many years, my mum suffers with several mental health conditions and I have seen her go from the happiest person to the lowest anyone can be. With the right help and medication, she became my mum again.’
‘Engaging in this 16-week course excited me as it will enhance my understanding of improving the lives of other and my own.’
The course involves:
- Exploring Mental Health
- How to support individuals and protect your own mental health
- Understanding mental health
Once completed all the first aider’s will receive an accredited level 2 certificate as well as gaining lifelong skills to make a genuine difference in other people’s lives.
Triangle Fire Systems takes pride in having employees who prioritise mental health as much as we do, empowering them to have a positive impact on their own lives and the lives of others.
